The Africa SE4ALL Information and Communication Network, AICN, has been established to fill the information gap that exists in the timely accessing of required information on SE4ALL from global level down to country level and vice versa to advance country priority energy projects.
The existence of information gap is not a new phenomenon but was identified two years ago when NEPAD and UNDP In collaboration with AUC and AFDB organized an all Africa Energy Stakeholders Meeting in September 2012 to develop Africa response to SE4ALL. That meeting recognized the importance of smooth and timely flow from the global level down to the national level in connection with SE4ALL and requested the AU/NEPAD Platform for development to take the centre stage in filling this gap.
Furthermore, the Energy Expert Group meeting, held in Nairobi ,on 18-19 June 2014 and was jointly organised by NEPAD Agency (NPCA) and UNDP in partnership with AUC and AFDB reiterated the Council of Energy Ministers of Africa (CEMA) decision to utilize the Africa Platform for Development Effectiveness (APDev) as the portal for the AICN. Hence the set-up of this portal.
The AICN is starting by simple but efficient structure which is based on focal points at country levels and will be linked to Africa SE4ALL Hub, Global Facilitation Structure and relevant African Energy Networks.
