Some statistics

  • High population growth rate of the past results in today’s  high youth population
  • Youth in Kenya constitute over a third of the entire 40m population
  • 80 percent of Kenyans are less than 35 years old. This represents great economic and social opportunities, if properly harnessed. But it  also poses enormous challenges
  • Proportionately,  80 percent of the 2.3 million unemployed are young people between 15 and 34 years of age

Definition of mentorship

"Mentoring is to support and encourage people to manage their own learning in order that they may maximise their potential, develop their skills, improve their performance and become the person they want to be.“

Eric Parsloe, The Oxford School of Coaching & Mentoring

Mentorship is defined as a personal developmental relationship in which a more experienced or more knowledgeable person helps a less experienced or less knowledgeable person.

Mentorship is  helping to shape an individual’s beliefs and values in a positive way; often a longer term career relationship from someone who has ‘done it before’
