Abstract: 

"From Aid Effectiveness to Development Effectiveness, Building Partnerships of Equals Based on Mutual Respect, Trust and Accountability"

  1. The Africa Regional Meeting on Aid Effectiveness (AE), South-South Cooperation (SSC) and Capacity Development (CD) was held in Pretoria, South Africa from 2-5 March 2010. The meeting was designed to elucidate the current aid architecture and its implications for Africa’s development and to stimulate new reflections on existing innovative mechanisms to enhance capacity for SSC. The upcoming High Level Event (HLE) on SSC and CD in AE context scheduled for Bogota, Colombia from 24-26 March 2010 and the IV High Level Forum (HLF) on AE in Seoul, South Korea in 2011 present opportunities for the South to engage in a dialogue of equals with the North to promote effective reform of the existing aid cooperation architecture.
  2. The meeting was co-organized by National Treasury of South Africa and the NEPAD Planning and Coordinating Agency, with the support of the European Union. The Deputy Minister of Finance of South Africa, Mr. Nhlanhla M. Nene, MP and the Chief Executive Officer, NEPAD Agency, Dr. Ibrahim Assane Mayaki presented keynote statements to the meeting. The Co-Chair of the OECD/DAC Working Party on Aid Effectiveness and Economic Adviser to the Minister of International Cooperation of Egypt, Dr. Talaat Abdel-Malek presided over the sessions.
